Micah Challenge!

This month, MICAH CHALLENGE http://www.micahchallenge.us/Home.shtml will be our social justice focus for Dessert House! We are thrilled to partner with Micah Challenge in raising awareness of the Millennium Development Goals and giving you the avenues to take action to combat international justice issues.

In 2000, the nations of the world, including the United States, adopted eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for the alleviation of extreme poverty. Targets
were set for each of these goals, and nations have made commitments for meeting these targets by 2015.

Micah Challenge is grounded in the spirit of Micah 6:8, “And what does the Lord require
of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah Challenge is a global campaign to mobilize Christians against poverty. The campaign aims to deepen Christian engagement with impoverished and marginalized communities, and to influence leaders
of rich and poor nations to fulfill their promise to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. Micah Challenge exists in 39 countries around the globe.

Desserts, fair trade coffee and tea will be served! Let me know if you have any favorites!

desserthouse in the next few weeks!

hi friends! its time to mark your calendars for the next desserthouse! i am excited to announce we will be featuring Yobel Market as our organiztion to support this time! this desserthouse will be hosted by the beautiful crystalyn lee and will be held at the KAO sorority (sp?) house in downtown springs. i'll post the address on the desserthouse facebook page shortly. the tentative date is saturday, may 2. we will send out an official facebook event invite by the end of the week with all the details. start telling your friends! lets really show up to support Yobel and enjoy some great music and art!

the first desserthouse:colorado springs was a beautiful success!

hey folks! just want to let you know how it went monday night. the maiden voyage of dessert house embarked beautifully! many of you joined us for the musical stylings of matt lopez and shawn lyon and the artistic expression of emily and me! total, we raised almost $240 for International Justic Mission (ijm.org) and we learned about the incredible things they're doing overseas. thanks to all who came and a special thanks to yobel market (yobelmarket.com) for joining us with their fair trade products! tell your friends and keep a look out for details about next month's night of wonder at dessert house: march 09!

the maiden voyage of desserthouse colorado springs!

hello friends! here is your official invite to the first Dessert House here in the Springs!
i am so excited you are a part of this! the suggested cover at the door is $10 (previously it was $12 but we decided to go with the lower amount) this is a donation type thing so if you just can't afford, come anyway!
all proceeds this month go to Internationa Justice Mission (www.ijm.org)
we have a sweet line up of local cool people who are amazing musicians and artists and the list continues to grow.
fair trade coffee and tea will be served, along with dessert!

where we shall be...

location location location! shawn lyon has opened his home to we creative folk for the first month of dessert house! its going to be monday, february 23 of this year, from 7pm to 11pm. if you are or know someone who is musically/artistically inclined...join us! contact me on facebook or via email if you are interested in sharing your talent. we will charge a cover of $12 and all the proceeds from this month will go to support the international justice mission. check out their amazing efforts at www.ijm.org. more info to come!

rumors of good things coming

as the first official post, i'd like to begin with great news...

its looking like the first dessert house is going to happen this month!

we are discussing several options for location...thats really the biggest obstacle at this point. if you have ideas for where we could do this...pass them on! at this point we are planning on goin for the last thursday of february if we can find a sweet spot to hold it at. remember, this kinda thing not only brings about true community but also is free advertising for the local businesses if they lend their resources to us for a night.

some other things we're needing...
decor to enhance the atmosphere (ie: fabric, candles, tables/chairs possibly)
any donated desserts we can get
local artists and musicians

the proceeds from this night of amazingness will go toward International Justice Mission this month. next month we are considering several other great orgs and efforts that are doing serious work to eliminate poverty and injustice here and abroad.
