April DH!

with the warmer weather of spring rolling in, we thought we'd do DH this month at a spot with outdoor options...aka: a backyard! thanks, ken, for hosting!

the evening's happening:
Thursday, April 22, 2010
Time: 7:00pm - 10:00pm
Location: Kind Ken's Kasa
Street: 6590 Snowbird Dr
City/Town: Colorado Springs, CO

many of you know or have heard of the infamous - er - ever popular Trevor Shrock. this friend of ours is adventuring in Argentina right now and for some months to come. he's encountered an incredibly generous group of people down there called El Comedor. they work with and feed the street children in Cordoba, Argentina. this month's mula will be going to El Comedor to further their efforts to change the lives of those kids who’ve been forgotten and looked over for way too long.

the music lineup is stunning, as usual:
sean reilly
sara j beck
ben presner
tyler griffith (our newest DH musician! and a fiddle player to boot!)
and possibly a few other surprise guests!

if you are or know an artist, you are most welcome to join the fun! i might be breaking out the paints to get something on canvas myself!

and, of course, we must have desserts in order to have a DessertHouse! if you want to make a tasty treat, we will be most obliging! contact sara j beck to let her know you’re in!

all in all, this is shaping up to be a fantastic evening…we hope you are a part of it!

discoverthejourney.org

Hey Friends!

Discover the Journey is a nonprofit that is dedicated to creating awareness and speaking up for children who cannot speak up for themselves. Check out their website at discoverthejourney.org to see the films they have created. They truely paint a picture of some of the injustices that face children in the world today. Last month we talked about sex trafficking. This month we will be supporting the fight against child soldiers.

We will be featuring some new artists: Erin Jones, Alison Leah Hall, and Mundi Ross

Fantastic tunes will be accompanying the wonderful art. Featuring Black Cassidy from Houston, TX, Sara J Beck with a little addition, and our very own local, Grant Sabin!

As always, there is a suggested donation of $10, and if you would like to contribute a dessert, please send me a message!

We look forward to having you join!

February 2010 DH

$32 billion every year.
don't mean to sound dramatic but that's an eye catching figure. it's how much is generated annually due to the movement of human slaves. last month we focused specifically on sex slavery. this month we're connecting with Love146 (www.love146.org) to educate ourselves and assist others caught in this broader cycle of injustice...the reality of human slavery.

thanks to the ross's for hosting. if you've ever been to dogtooth cafe downtown, their place is just across the way from there. (see address)

much preemptive gratitude to all the musicians and artists coming around...seriously friends...this will be the best desserthouse yet. anyone like some local, live music? (including but not limited to names such as: ben p, charles b, grant s, and possibly even our dear sara j beck)

if you are or know an artist...feel free to jump in! we'll have a few creative guests present and are always up for more!

i'm super jealous cuz i won't be there this month, so you should enjoy this month's dh doubly for me!

if you are interested in showing off your mad dessert making skills we'd love to have your culinary awesomeness join the fun. message sara schlotterbeck if you can bring something.

Date: Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Time: 7:00pm - 10:00pm
Location: Casa Corona (home of the Ross's)
Street: 1332 North Corona St
City/Town: Colorado Springs, CO

DH January 2010

dude! i just realized i haven't updated the blog in a while! so sorry, friends!

Just want to thank all you lovely people who came out for DessertHouse January. Quite possibly the best night of music yet! Much love to all who contributed time, talent and mula! We got $460 total for the Home of Hope in Moldova. They'll be super thankful!

-Shanna

below is the invite info for january's desserthouse...its already happened, so keep an eye out for february's desserthouse event info!

happy new year to you!

this month's featured cause is Human Trafficking, and our organization is Home of Hope - Moldova. this is a safe house run by friends of ours who are working to bring restoration and security to women who have been rescued from sex slavery. if you don't know what human trafficking is or if you do and want to help make a difference, tonight is the night for you.their website is http://www.harvestmoldova.com/ministries/home-of-hope

okay, so i may have accidentally forgotten about the offer of einstein's bagels last month at desserthouse...but rest assured, friends, it is on my calendar - i will not forget this time!

our music and artists line up will be awesome (as always)...i just don't remember who is playing this time around :) if you wanna know, come and find out! if you've never been before...you won't regret joining us!

$10 = super do-able for each of us. its not required to get in, but if all of us gave $10 we could really do some serious assisting this month for the women and children who have no one to help them in moldova. bring some cash if you have it...if not, we still love you.

Hello Friends!!! I won't keep you long, but be sure to read down to the bottom of this invite...your tastebuds will thank you!

We are so excited about this month's DessertHouse!

Many thanks to Whole Foods for so graciously hosting our event this month! Our featured nonprofit can be found at: http://www.wholeplanetfoundation.org/
Checkout the Whole Planet website...through this organization, Whole Foods is doing some awesome microfinancing work in the same communities where many of the products you and I purchase from their store are sourced.

Our music line up is most wonderful...
Sean Reilly...potential future DH host, yes sir ree
Sara J Beck, words are not adequate.
Charles and dear Rachel Brown (happy birthday week Charles)
Lincoln, the one and only
Art is TBA...sorry if this puts you in an unreasonable amount of suspense.

The suggested $10 at the door wil be a bit different this time around. We'll have a jar by the musicians and you can give as you feel led. As with every month, all proceeds go directly to our feature group of cool people doing cool things.

What would DessertHouse be without dessert, fair trade coffee, and fair trade tea?! What would DessertHouse at Whole Foods be without Whole Foods bakery desserts?! Come ready for not only Whole Foods made desserts, but some free food tasting around the store as well! (show up before 7pm if you are excited bout the food tasting)

Okay folks, hope to see you there. Blue star if you are able to show up, sad day if not!

DH October 09 Baby

it is nearing the end of october ALREADY!
you know what that means fellow music/art/dessert/etc lovers...

desserthouse time, baby.

much love to amy and the staff of Garden of the Gods Gourmet for hosting this month! they are absolutely worth checking out...desserthouse or not. check out our facebookpage for address info...or call me (shanna) 281.796.3635

this month we are proudly featuring the efforts of Opportunity Int'l...their work with microfinancing, women leadership development, and lots of other brilliant works caught our eye; and we think it'll catch yours. (www.opportunity.org)

$10 at the door...suggested, of course...and as with every month, all proceeds go directly to our feature group of cool people doing cool things.

watch the DessertHouse facebook page for some sweet spotlights on our musicians and artists!

BYOM is still fully intact, so be sure to find us if you Bring Your Own Mug to get your legit hug

it was cleverly suggested that we do a little something unprecedented this month...how bout some costume action from the creative among us? if your feeling feisty...dress it up and we'll dedicate a song or two to you :D

oh, and if youre interested in helping us keep our personal investment at a minimum...shoot me a text or post on the wall if you feel like shocking some taste buds with a delish dessert.

peace
